Whose veiled bride are you,
O Evening Star?
Whose image is mirrored in your eyes?
Shading the evening lamp
with the sari-front
you look archly like a newly-wed
and gleam shyly.
Whose love-lorn beloved are you?
waiting dejectedly in the twilight-darkened path
in the evening
you fill the heart of the homeless
with yearnings for a cosy home.
For whom are you pining
O bride of the sky.
